what counts as a “labs arm”

How to land it

Realistic route for an outside engineer with no bio network, best odds first:

  1. Cold apply where the req is real and role-first. Foresite Labs (live Sr Data Eng) and DSV (Founding Analyst) take direct applications and don't require domain bio — trading-grade throughput/latency/pipeline skills are the pitch.
  2. Cold-pitch as a technical co-founder where the build arm is real but the engineer role isn't advertised: Sofinnova/Biovelocita, Apollo, CIC, OSE. Bring a concrete thesis (bio data infrastructure, GMP/biomanufacturing pipelines, genomics-scale throughput) — they want a thesis, not a CV.
  3. Portfolio-company-first is the pragmatic backdoor. Most of these firms drop engineers into their NewCos, not the fund. Watch spinout launches and target the founding-engineer slot at the newly-formed company — lower bar, same build energy.
